The details can be found on the Crumby Creations group wall on facebook.

All you have to do is be a member of the group and bake a cake. Send a photo of the finished cake to my facebook inbox, or post the link to the photo in the comments here.

The contest is open to those in the hobart and surrounding areas.

Make something yummy and you could win something delicious!

A delicious weekend

It's started.

Last night there was chocolate brownies to be had. Today I'm pondering making some of Julie Goodwin's lemon diva cupcakes. I don't want to enter the competition at Birchall's but I am a fan of baking, so what better way to give myself an excuse to bake than to mark an occaision?

I also plan on making my fiance a cheesecake. He's been so good through all the wedding breakdowns, what better way to thank him. I can't find my spring form tin though, so I might have to make do with a pie dish. :(

I also have to find some time to get some wedding invitations mocked up foir my mother's approval. This is going to be a great, but long, weekend.

Pop ups are fixed so here are some pics as promised!

Birthday Baking!

Something is going on with my computer and image uploading is being blocked by the stupid pop-up blocker....which I have turned off.

I wanted to tell you about the playboy cake. Two tiers. Now I know traditionally tier cakes have pillars....but not lately. Now tier cakes can be pillarless, and there are even the topsy turvy ones that seem to defy gravity! I wish for those pans, I really do.

The bottom tier was a two layer chocolate cake with chocolate cream in the middle and chocolate cream icing. Black chocolate cream icing. The top tier was again chocolate cake with chocolate cream, but the icing was a dark blue. No, I wouldn't have willingly dyed icing that colour but what Kelly wants, kelly gets.

The cake was finished off with some white chocolate playboy bunny heads. There are pictures on the crumby creation group on facebook, but as I said, my pop ups are all being blocked and I can't get the java window open to upload them here. So toddle over if you want to have a look.

Apparantly it was delicious! I wouldn't know. I was too busy playing bar wench at the party to sneak a piece!

baking, baking, baking....

It's anzac day this sunday, this means that not only is it my best friend, and partner in crumby creation crime, Kelly's birthday, but it means that I have to bake anzac bixcuits!

Mmmmmmmmmm and I bake the chewy kind people, not those tooth breaking crunchy ones!

Kelly has been my best friend for many years. She is going to be my maid of honour in my wedding in October and we have gone through a lot with each other. Her birthday is the 25th of April and every year I bake her anzac biscuits because it was something her mother used to do, but stopped when she got older.

There's something comforting about baked goods. I enjoy cooking anything. But when it comes to eating, there's something more comforting about cakes, breads, biscuits and roast meals. Things that go in the oven. Maybe it's the time, or the memories of mother's baking, but they are the things that I get excited about eating!

So yes. Anzac biscuits tomorrow, and a two tiered playboy cake for Kelly's party on Saturday evening.

If I don't blog over the weekend....it's because I partook of a few too many cocktails! Wish you could be there!

Ok, for those who read this Blog and live in the greater hobart area.....
Birchall's is having a competition! Cupcake decorating!!!!!!!!

The details can be found here: http://www.birchalls.com.au/

But basicly you have to make Master Chef winner; Julie's Lemon Diva cupcake and decorate it. You can make one, two or a million (maybe not a million, you only have a week!) Julie is the judge and you could win $200 worth of Joseph Joseph cooking utensils!

There are great ideas for decorating these wonderful cakes!

One person's failure....

I made a cake today. It was an order for a friend. It was supposed to be a fastback mustang. 1969.

It certainly LOOKS like a car. It has the details of a fastback thingo....but see.... here's the problem.

I am not a car person. The cake looks like a car. It has the same lights, curve of the back, two doors, bonnet scoop of the fastback. I'm worried it isn't going to be what my friend had in mind when she ordered.

I did however learn a lesson.
When doing cars in future, use fondant. Gravity is attacking my icing details and it makes me sad.
Edited to add: She loves it. She's very happy and that makes me like it a little bit more!

Petite four

Ok. So today I made a couple of small layered cakes. Traditionally petite fours (petits fours) are made with very thin layers and covered with fondant or glace icing, today I made two slightly thicker layers and put them together with caramel.

Heart shaped layer cake

To be honest, it didn't turn out exactly as I wanted. But it was a close enough product that I was happy. When I gave it my fiance to eat, well, I dunno if he tasted the love but he certainly liked it!

I've been wanting to do these for a while and today I finally got to. I am a big fan of butter cream icing, most of my cakes are finished with it, but because of the size of these cakes I had to go for a thinner icing mix. Pouring fondant would have been ideal but I wasn't going to play around with that today.

All in all. I think it looks pretty, and after reading over my shoulder my fiance says "Yes I DID taste the love"

CAKE PORN!

So I like cakes. I like cake tins. I like books about cakes. I like fondant cutters and moulds. I even really like cake decorating gels and colours.

Because of this, anytime I look at anything related to cakes my fiance kind of rolls his eyes and says, with disdain in his voice, "So........you're looking at cake porn again"

Guilty as charged.

Today I did some awesome cake porn shopping! And I didn't even use my favourite place (ebay *le sigh*). I got a couple of cake tins, some cookie cutters, patty pan casings and cake plates. Yes. I am truely and absolutely happy.

So now, I think I'm going to go to bed to dream about the awesome cakes that are to come this week, the shops that fuel my desires, and the inches all this baking is putting on my hips (as if I need more!)

Good night my bloggy friends!

It's cold.....time to bake!

I spent a wonderful day yesterday making chocolates with Kelly, for her birthday party. I promise that some of them even made it into the container for the party.

I baked some large white choc chip cup cakes, man size, for my fiance, but had to ice them while they were still hot as he was going out the door, and he wanted them for work. Though he assures me they were delicious I'm still sade because they weren't perfect.

I didn't even have time to take a photo!

It's starting to get colder here though. I'm about to go have a shower because I swear my toes are in danger of frostbite. But the perfect thing to do in this weather is to bake, and make soups. Well, my fridge is lacking a lil in a variety of vegetables, so baking it is!

Just got to decide on what bit of yumminess sounds appealing!

A second one already????

I wanted to just thanks those who have read the blog already (all whopping one post of it) and who are following me! (Adam, Jess and Kat!)

I must also say that this brainchild is designed to give people without the time or inclination a place to go to buy a cake, a variety of cakes, that aren't just sheet cakes with a picture stuck on top, Whilst also giving two stay at home mothers (Kelly and myself), a chance to turn a hobby into something a little more profitable. And I do mean a little more.

So with that......We have our group on facebook and our blog here. Hopefully we'll see if there is enough intrest to really knuckle down and create a proper buissiness.

FINGERS CROSSED!!!!!!!

P.S....Joan? Ahhh.....there you are Joan. Um....You're fired! I have real people reading this now!

Well this is all new!

Ok,

Here's the thing. I'm typing this knowing that no one is reading, and really, that doesn't inspire alot of creativity on my part. So I'm going to pretend someone is reading, that someone can be called 'Joan'.

Hi Joan. *waves*

I am on my way to making what is called an at home buissiness Joan. Yes! Absolutely! That's correct! I'm a stay at home mother who loves to cook. And slowly, I am starting to make my hobby into a buissiness. Crumby Creations.

Am I any good?

Well, I like to think I have some raw untapped talent. And I have the eager beaverness to learn! Yes Joan! I like learning! So far, my speciality is party cakes.

Iggle Piggle

Eyeball Cakeballs

What can I offer you Joan?

Well....... I can offer you a cake at a reasonable cost. I can strive to design whatever it is you want. I can make you something that will make others (hopefully) go wow! I will spend the hours it takes to bake your cake, level your cake, sculpt your cake, ice your cake and decorate it, so you don't have to! I will post pictures here so that you can see the cakes I have done. Occaisionally I will post pictures of cakes where I have taken inspiration from! You give me your idea and I will run with it Joan! *cue chariots of fire music*

I know alot of bakeries can charge a fortune for a cake. My promise to you is that I will charge you the lowest price possible while still giving you an excellent product, I will discuss what it is you want and will make myself available every day for e-mail. I am adaptable to your needs Joan. I can promise your cake will be baked in a clean kitchen, that the rules of good kitchen practices ARE applied (washed hands, clean linen, etc).

If this sounds good, then please.....follow this blog. Hopefully You will come with me on my journey of creativity.
